    Coffee Tips

Pappy and his crew want you to experience good quality, and freshly brewed coffee with every cup. Here are a few tips and suggestions for you to keep that freshness and experience that same great coffee while at home.

    Pappy's Coffee Tips

How much coffee to water should I use? That is a great question! A great starting point is 1-15. That means 1 part coffee to 15 parts water. So for example a 10 oz cup would require about 20 grams of coffee. For 20 grams of coffee you would times that by 15, meaning you need 300 grams of water. If you measure using other methods (grams or ounces) just remember 1-15 and you can't go wrong!

Tastes may vary depending on the brew method (drip, pour over, or french press) have fun and try different ratio's and grind settings.

We only sell whole beans which will allow the coffee to remain fresh longer.

Try to store your coffee in a dark airtight container to help hold the flavor and freshness  in for longer periods of time. Grind your coffee (small home grinders work great) just before you are ready to brew your coffee. And the last tip is that filtered water makes a huge difference in taste. Make some coffee with tap water, then make some coffee with filtered water, you will be amazed at the difference!

    Pour Over

    Water Temp: 195-205°FF

    Coffee to Water Ratio: 1-15

    Grind Setting: Medium - Coarse

Let it Bloom: Fresh coffee still has some trapped gasses in it. Let your first pour completely submerge the ground beans. You will see a slight bloom as the coffee begins to rise creating a dome. Give it about 30 seconds before you begin to add more water.

Pulse Pour: After your coffee has bloomed and water begins to drip into your cup begin to add more hot water. Keep it topped by adding water in a stop and go, pulse method. ENJOY!

    French Press

    Water Temp: 202°F

Coffee to Water Ratio: 1-15 or 1-17

    Grind Setting: Coarse

(We like using a manual coffee grinder instead of an electric grinder for our French Press using a 6-65 setting. Makes the perfect cup every time!)

    Brew Time: 4:30-5 min.

And as always share a good cup with someone else.
